New York, NY) is a multidisciplinary artist and engineer who builds worlds that bend time through sculpture, film, installation, writing, and mixed-media painting. Stone is the creator of The Black Alchemisphere, a thousand-year history of women told through a speculative, time-parallel universe where stolen histories become living myths. Drawing from Black and Mexican archives, Mesoamerican cosmologies, emerging technology, and her writing, Stone constructs immersive worlds in which history, memory, and the future exist simultaneously. The Black Alchemisphere collapses linear time into living archives. Through historical futurism, world-building, critical writing, and technological experimentation, Stone investigates how societies inherit, preserve, and redesign systems of meaning across periods of profound transformation. Her current chapter, Inheritance, examines how memory, intelligence, and possibility are transmitted through DNA, cosmology, land, and cultural memory. The work moves between fictional writing and material artifacts, sculpture, painting, film, and installation, as fragments of a larger world still being built. Stone’s work has been exhibited internationally, including at Tate Modern’s Beyond Surfaces festival, and featured by Good Morning America, Calvin Klein × Perfect Magazine, and NBC LA News. She was shortlisted for Bloomberg New Contemporaries and the Somerset House Fellowship and received a commission from the Venice Film Festival. A Royal College of Art graduate, Stone holds a background in mechanical engineering and has designed products for Apple and Google. Her practice investigates who gets to author the values embedded in future systems and what cultural infrastructures may be required as the architectures of time, power, and intelligence begin to shift. With a background in engineering and contemporary art, I approach world-building as a form of research: examining the structures that organize human experience while imagining alternative possibilities for the future. At the center of my practice is a methodology I call historical futurism, or time-parallel fictioning; a process of constructing speculative worlds that exist across multiple timelines, where histories, archives, myths, and lived experiences converge. Through writing, sculpture, painting, film, and installation, I create artifacts from these imagined worlds as a way of examining the systems that shape our own. My ongoing research project, The Black Alchemisphere, investigates the relationship between ancestral memory, technology, and futurity. Drawing from archival cosmologies, science, technology, and personal histories, the work considers how data-driven storytelling is preserved, transformed, and reimagined. Objects within the practice function as remnants of worlds: evidence of narratives that exist beyond conventional historical frameworks. My work is informed by questions surrounding inheritance: what is passed down, what is erased, and what futures can be constructed from the fragments that remain. A carbon copy of the lantern of her soul becomes the steadfast anchor for her and the transformative journey that lies ahead. The mixed media composition showcases archival images, alongside genuine alchemical texts sourced from Stone's meticulous research. Within this Black Alchemical Universe, the central characters engage with numerous historical figures, breathing life into encounters that transcend the boundaries of reality. Fiction gracefully weaves itself into the narrative, seamlessly bridging the gaps for conversations, interactions, and the retelling of speculative histories, all with the intent of reshaping the trajectory of contemporary discourse. The archives swiftly emerge as a cornerstone of this artistic methodology. However, they often bear the weight of incompleteness, with forgotten tales or unrecoverable remnants. Within every step of the process, gaps persist, as eloquently expressed by Ines Ponte, who regards archives as "structured repositories whose dynamics rely on the archivist," thereby introducing the possibility of human fallibility in the preservation of history. This Private Gallery next to the American Embassy was the site for two intro chapters of Stone’s&nbsp;Black Alchemisphere. The first chapter titled A Portal to the World,&nbsp; teleports the audience and introduces this new universe. The second introductory chapter, titled Dark Matter, will leave the viewer in an oasis of new cosmic materiality. The installation is comprised of over 10 paintings, 13 sculptures, video installation, as well as mixed media works, and works made using virtual reality. Alyse has been working on this project for three years. Fiction fills the holes for conversation, interactions, and a retelling of speculative history in hopes of evolving the trajectory of ongoing contemporary discourse. The archives quickly became a central part of this methodology. Yet, they are often incomplete, stories forgotten, or never preserved. There are gaps in every step of the process or as Ines Ponte states, archives are “structured repositories whose dynamics depend on their archivist” which introduces an opportunity for human error in the arch of historical preservation. The outcome of the three-year research initiative is an idea: a methodology and a visual practice that both interrogates and creates a space where something more can exist for Black women; in the future and in the present.
