In the Black Alchemisphere, the main characters interact with a number of real people throughout history.

Fiction fills the holes for conversation, interactions, and a retelling of speculative history in hopes of evolving the trajectory of ongoing contemporary discourse. The archives quickly became a central part of this methodology. Yet, they are often incomplete, stories forgotten, or never preserved. There are gaps in every step of the process or as Ines Ponte states, archives are “structured repositories whose dynamics depend on their archivist” which introduces an opportunity for human error in the arch of historical preservation.

The outcome of the three-year research initiative is an idea: a methodology and a visual practice that both interrogates and creates a space where something more can exist for Black women; in the future and in the present.
